Fluorogenic EC Broth with MUG 500g Condalab 1285
The Fluorogenic EC with MUG Broth is for the detection of E.coli using the membrane filtration technique. This medium allows for the detection of coliform organisms to prevent the spread of disease, and can be used in applications such as drinking water, wastewater treatment systems, and general water quality monitoring. The medium can be incubated at 35±2 ºC for the detection of coliform organisms or at 44.5 ºC for the isolation of E. coli.
The bile salts are used to act as a selective agent for inhibiting gram-positive bacteria, bacilli, and enterocci yet it allows E. coli to develop. The potassium salts have a high buffering capacity and typtose has the nutrients for growth. The lactose is the fermentable carbohydrate as a carbon and energy source and sodium chloride is used to maintain the osmotic balance.
E. coli contauns the enzyme ß-D-glucuronidase that hydrolyzes MUG to yield a fluorogenic product that is detectable under long-wave (366 nm) UV light. The addition of MUG to EC Broth provides another criterion, in addition to growth response and gas production, to determine the presence of E. coli in food and environmental samples.
